he said. “I simply cannot believe
it. That wing was secured and

and the unique heritage it has had

Alumnae were also urged to
contact Mississippi and Texas
members of Congress.
“Texas Woman’s University
could be adversely affected by this
case, and we hope the Texas con
gressmen will join Mississippians
in introducing such legislation,”
the letter said. “Those of you who
live in Texas may wish to contact
the Texas members of Congress. If
we are successful in getting such
legislation introduced, we will
contact you again and ask alumnae
from all states to encourage your
respective congressman to pass
the legislation.”
TWU does admit men in some
academic departments.
Stroble said some congressmen
have already been contacted,
although their reaction has been
neither negative nor positive.
The school appealed the case to
the Supreme Court after the
appeals court ruling in June.
Hogan had filed suit in U.S.
District Court June 19, 1980,
claiming his constitutional rights
were being denied when he was
turned down for admission to
MUW because of his sex. The dis
trict court initially ruled in favor of
MUW, but was overturned by the
federal appeals court.
