The total project cost was about
$111,000, Wally Groff, associate
athletic director, said.
“It was basically (Frymire’s)
idea,” Groff said. “He said we
needed something (for the sta
dium) and we agreed. He actually
got the idea last fall after the sta
dium was completed.”
Robert S. Boyce, in the systems
architect’s office, went to work on
it, Groff said, and Charles J.
Goodwin, Class of ’42, solved the
problem of attaching the letters to
the press box. Goodwin is an en
gineer in Bryan.
Frymire will be honored with a
plaque to be placed near the ele
vators at the base of the letters
during the 3:30 p.m. dedication
ceremony. He will receive a pic
ture of his donation, Groff said.
The sundial, donated by Searcy
Bracewell, Class of ’38, is set for
dedication at 3 p.m. in the Floral
Test Gardens. The sundial, which
has only recently been land
scaped, is still missing a plaque.
“There is a plaque about four
feet across and about 12 or 14 in
ches high that tells how to use the
sundial,” said J. Wayne Stark,
special assistant to the president
in charge of cultural development.
Bracewell also will receive a
picture of his donation, which will
be displayed at the president’s
pre-game buffet.
In a separate dedication cere
mony, the Texas Aggie Band Asso

The Married Student Apart
ment Council will host a gathering
tonight to encourage couples to
participate in the council and in its
election of officers.
The meeting will begin at 7
p.m. at the Quonset Huts. Any
one living in Texas A&M Univer
sity’s married student housing will
be admitted by showing his apart
ment key.
Council President Brian Ste
wart said the officer elections will
be Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Residents can
cast their votes when they pay
October rent, he said.
The four open council offices
are vice president of student
affairs, vice president of automo
tive facilities, secretary and
treasurer. Candidates must be en
rolled in the University. About 20
representatives, students or
spouses, will be appointed later,
based on the number of residents
per complex.
Stewart said the council’s main
goal is to get people active. In
teraction among married students
is low, he said. They are too busy
with school or work and don’t want
to get involved, he said.
Communication has to be used
inside and outside the council to
correct problems in the complex,
Stewart said. It’s the responsibil
ity of everyone in the housing
complexes to care about others
and to act when problems are
noticed.
