Lines have become a tradition
at Texas A&M University for
reasons other than crowding.
Football fans will line up twice on
Saturday to cheer on the Texas
Aggies in the game against
Louisiana Tech University.
Before each home game Aggie
fans form a spirit line between
Cain Hall and the Kyle Field en
trance; Texas A&M football play
ers walk down the spirit line on
their way to the stadium dressing
rooms.
At the end of halftime, seniors
form another spirit line — the
boot line — to welcome players
back to the field. Approximately
700 to 800 seniors are expected to
line up.
Participation in the boot line is
considered a senior privilege and
thus is limited to seniors. The tra
dition gets its name from years ago
tvhen all Texas A&M students
were in the Corps and seniors in
the Corps wear boots.
Because of the University’s
rapid growth, large senior classes
have caused some organizational
problems in forming the boot line.
The main problems are that
people joining the line walk on the
field and in the end zone and that
underclassmen join the line when
it’s not their privilege. Head Yell
Leader Mike Thatcher said. Yell
leaders supervise boot line forma
tion.
Thatcher emphasized that
senior dates should not join the
line unless they are seniors, too.
Yell leaders and members of the
Student Government Student
Service Committee have a plan to
take care of the organizational
problems though. Corps officers
of the day will stand at the edge of
the field to keep people off the
field when the band is playing.
Seniors should start forming the
boot line toward the end of the
Aggie Band’s performance.

Cadets march into Kyle Field,
itep-off for Saturday’s military re-
iew will be at 6:05 p.m.
Before each home game, a visit-
ng military officer conducts a for-
nal review of the cadets during
heir march into the stadium. Re-

Same is Lt. Gen. John H. Miller,
diller is deputy chief of staff of
ilans, policies and operations for
he U.S. Marine Corps in
iVashington, D.C.
Miller will be accompanied on
he reviewing stand by Col. James
Woodall, commandant of the
Corps of Cadets and professor of
army science; Col. Henry C. Hill,
professor of air science; and Col.

naval-marine science.
Corps staff members lead the
reviews and the Fightin’ Texas
Aggie Band. Each of the military
divisions will follow in order: First
Regiment, naval-marine cadets;
the First Wing, air force cadets;
and the First Brigade, army

Texas Maritime Academy also will
take part in the review. Parson’s
Mounted Calvary concludes each
review.
The Corps will assemble at 5:05
p. m. on the Corps quadrangle and
will step-off at 5:15. Cadets then
will march to Cain Hall for the
spirit line.
Cadets and civilians standing
together in a spirit line hold an
informal yell practice before the
Texas Aggie football players walk
down the line extending from the
athletic dormitory to Kyle Field.
The yell practice begins at 5:40
p.m. and will last about 20 mi
nutes.
Head Football Coach Tom Wil
son has said the spirit line helps
motivate the players. He has
asked different campus groups to
make a special effort to be in the
spirit line to support the team.
“Show them that you believe in
them and show them you are hap
py they are your football team,” he
said.
