kidney problem was discovered
during training earlier this year at
Orlando, Fla. His pre-enlistment
physical at the Armed Forces Ex
amining and Entrance Station in
Dallas reflected a clean bill of
health, the newspaper said.
“It’s really a rotten deal,” said
Dr. Ronald P. Rabin, a New
Orleans urologist who examined
Ince.
Ince, who said he had never
been troubled by the kidney play
ing football or working as an oil
field roustabout, said he will fight
for the benefits he says he de
serves.
His attorney, Cmdr. A. B.
Jones with the Navy Judge Advo
cate’s branch in New Orleans, said
the Navy owes his client.
“My position is that the Navy
owed him the responsbility of put
ting him back in the condition he
was in before he entered the
Navy,” he said.
Ince, his doctors, his family and
his lawyer agree the kidney was
non-functioning before his enlist
ment, but the symptoms never
appeared until he began Navy
basic training.
A Navy spokeswoman in
Washington, Lt. Cmdr. Trish Pal
las, said the Navy has to deter

Bush defends
Reaganomics

HOUSTON — Vice President
George Bush, relaxing Saturday in
his hometown for the second time
since inaugurated in January, said
people who criticize the presi
dent’s economic program are pre
mature in their remarks because
the plan will not go into effect until
October 1.
“People want a quick fix, ” Bush
said. “It’s not instant euphoria.
You’re not going to see an instant
solution, not with a problem that’s
taken two decades to get into.
“But once it takes effect, you’ll
see interest rates go down, infla
tion continue to go down and low
er unemployment rates,” he said.
He said although Wall Street
analysts are betting against Reaga
nomics, “My view is not to assail
Wall Street but to make the plan
work.
“There is uniform support of
the president’s program in the
small and large businesses. Where
the problem and lack of confi
dence is is with analysts,” he said.
Bush and wife Barbara, speak
ing informally with reporters fol
lowing a weeklong trip between
Mexico and Michigan, said the
first nine months in Washington
have been good for him.
When asked what he thinks of
his job, he said, “I like it. A lot of
people knock and criticize it, but I
also know there are a lot of people
who want it. ”
Bush still considers Texas his
home, despite his lack of a house
in the state. 1
