With all those runs before he even took the mound, Joe Niekro fashioned the Astros’ 17th shutout of the season, his second and the 21st of his career as Houston routed San Diego, 9-0. Jefferson also must reach a finan cial agreement with the Packers. The announcement came shortly after Jefferson held his own news conference with agent Howard Slusher to ask for a trade because Klein had refused to reopen negotiations on his $1 mil lion, nine, one-year contracts which had paid him only $40,(MM) in his rookie season in 1978 and $50,000 in 1979.
