Sports Entries Limited
Don’t Delay!!!
With last year’s numbers rising to 663 teams in
Flag Football, 333 teams in Volleyball, 670 teams
in Basketball and a meager 802 teams in Softball,
the Intramural-Recreational Sports Department is
often faced with a mild dilemma.
Although we will do everything in our power to
accommodate all interested parties, we cannot
guarantee all teams a spot in our intramural pro
grams. Limited playing space, available officials,
and constantly increasing program varieties force
us to place a cap on the number of entrants that
can be scheduled into a given sport.
Even though sport entries are usually open for 7
working days, you may not always find room in the
tournament if you wait until too near the closing
date. To avoid becoming a ‘late entry’ (a team or
individual wishing to enter after a tournament is
already full) follow some simple guidelines.
1) Plan to enter early in the week — the first or
second day of the entry period is usually the best
time.
2) Expect to possibly have to wait in line — we
will work as quickly and efficiently as we know
how.
3) Come prepared — have your entry fees with
you ($20 for team sports, $1 per person for indi
vidual and dual sports). BRING YOUR ID CARD
AND KNOW AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT
PHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESSES to put
on the entry card.
4) Be prepar ed to select alternate times or clas
ses if first choices are already full.
The department does not wish to scare away any
potential participants, so if you follow these simple
guidelines, you should have no trouble obtaining a
space in the intramural sport of your choice.

Class C-Everybody Wins!
The Intramural-Recreational Sports Depart
ment has changed the format of competition in
Class C action for the coming year.
Under the new format, there will be no Class C
All-University Champions. On the contrary, all
participants in this recreational league will even
tually emerge as winners.
Class C aspirants in team sports (Flag Football,
Soccer, etc.) will be scheduled into league (usual
ly, 6 teams to a league) and will then compete in
round-robin league play (usually, 5 games). Upon
the conclusion of the league schedule, the season
will over. This format enables the recreational
athlete the opportunity to compete without the
pressures often associated with Classes A and B.
Class C entrants in the individual and dual
sports (Tennis, Pickleball, etc.) will also be placed
into leagues (usually, 4 persons or teams) and will
then compete in round-robin league play (usually,
3 games) with no ultimate Class C champion.
Unlike previous years, where Class C competitors
participated in single-elimination tournaments,
participants are now all but guaranteed (with some
exceptions) 3 matches.
So now if an individual or team is overmatched
in their first outing, the season is not necessarily
over for them. Stop by the Intramural-
Reef eational Sports Office (Rm. 159 East Kyle)
and enter the sport(s) of your choice — Class A for
the highly skilled and highly competitive. Class B
for the moderately skilled and moderate competi
tion and Class C for. . . well JUST FOR THE
FUN OF IT!!!!

Intramural-Recreational Sports
Department will introduce a
new sport into its team sports
program. Innertube water bas

scene when entries

This new sport is
tion of innertube water polo and
basketball. Teams will consist of
six players each. Points shall be
scored by shooting a water polo
ball through a specially construc
ted basketball goal set up on the
side of the pool.
The court will be set up on
one-half (cross-ways) of a stan
dard-sized pool. Leagues will be
offered in Men’s, Women’s and
CoRec divisions.
As in other sports. Classes A,
B, & C will be offered. Classes A
& B will compete in a 3 game
round-robin league schedule
with all teams going to the play
offs. Class C teams will be sched
uled into round-robin leagues
having no playoffs.

Sports Office in Room 159 East
