A CALL TO THE THIRSTY
What kind of woman was she?
She had five husbands and the one she was living with
now wasn’t even her husband. She had come to draw
water from the well at noon in the heat of the day, not in
the cool of the evening when the other women came.
What brought her to the well alone at that hour?
What kind of woman was she?
A sinner, miserable and wretched? Yes. But more than
that, she was a thirsty seeker. And she needed a drink.
Although surely she was sinful, the main issue in this
woman’s life, is not a sin, but thirst. She is a seeking one.
She has come day after day to the well to draw water —
and on this day, recorded in John, chapter 4, a marvelous
Person is there, speaking to her.
Like no man before. He knows her need, and He is
speaking directly: “Woman, if you knew the gift of God
and who it is that is speaking to you... you would have
asked of him and he would have given you living water. ’ ’
Later, she replies: “Sir, give me this water.”
Because of the deep thirst of her being, the inner
longing for satisfaction, she had tried many things, even,
many men, looking for an answer for that longing. Her
whole reckless past, brought before her eyes now in all its
shambles, is just a sign, an indication of her deep, driving
thirst.
Only one thing could fill her, satisfy her desire. And
the One presently talking to her is speaking of exactly that
one thing; speaking right to that need, deep in the center
of her being.
Living Water.
This is exactly what Jesus has; it’s what He is, and He
is presenting Himself to all who are thirsty.
Jesus is not religion. Because of His crucifixion and
resurrection. He as the life-giving Spirit, has made Him
self available for you to drink. To taste, see. To sample
this wonderful living water.
Religion always consists of requirements imposed upon
man, a demand; while Christ, on the other hand, presents
Himself to man as life, a supply.
As He talked to the woman there, things began to
happen to her. As she spoke, she began to taste this living
water. Leaving her waterpot, she ran back to the village,
and brought many back with her, telling them to “come
see a man... Christ.”
The cry today is the same. As the Lord was seeking this
thirsty woman, so he today, as the Spirit, is searching out
His thirsty seekers. Those who would just care to take a
drink.
This living water is more than mere doctrine. Bible
knowledge, theology or empty traditions. Higher, richer,
sweeter than all other human experiences is the rich
experience of knowing Christ — inwardly — as living
water.
Taste Him.
How?
Psalm 116 says: “I will take the cup of salvation, and
call upon the name of the Lord.”
How did that thirsty woman get the living water? She
asked. And He gave it to her.
To taste, simply open your mouth, and with an honest
heart ask Christ to forgive your sins and to make His
home in your heart.
Ask Him now to give you this living water. He surely
will.
‘THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST.

OFFICIAL NOTICE TO STUDENT CONCERNING
TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY STUDENT RECORDS POLICY
Annually, Texas A&M University informs students of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of
1974. This Act, with which the University intends to comply fully, is intended to protect the privacy of
education records, to establish the rights of students to inspect and review their education records, and to
provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings.
Students also have the right to file complaints with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office of
the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. concerning alleged failures by the University to comply
with the Act.
Local policy explains in detail the procedures to be used by the University for compliance with the
provisions of the Act. Copies of the policy can be obtained at the Office of the Registrar, located in Heaton
Hall on the Texas A&M University campus.
Questions concerning the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act may be referred to the Office of the
Registrar.
DIRECTORY INFORMATION
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 permits a university to establish certain
categories of information regarding students as “directory information,” and to then disclose this informa
tion to third parties without the student’s prior consent. However, prior to releasing directory information
concerning a student, the University must have afforded the student the opportunity to indicate that he
does not want directory information concerning himself released without his prior written permission.
Texas A&M University proposes to designate the following personally identifiable information contained
in a student’s education records as “directory information.”
1. The student’s name
2. The local address, home address including country, and the telephone numbers of the student
3. The date and place of birth of the student
4. The names and address of the student’s parents
5. The student’s major field of study
6. The student’s class schedule
7. Participation in officially recognized activities and sports by the student
8. Weight and height of members of athletic teams
9. Dates of attendance, degrees and awards received
10. Previous educational agencies or institutions attended by the student
11. Sex, nationality, race and age of the student
12. The student’s photograph
13. Achievement awards or honors
14. The student’s class standing
15. Parking permit information
The University will release “directory information” to third parties unless the University receives timely,
written objection to such release in accordance with the procedure herein described.
Students who wish to have “directory information” withheld must complete the appropriate form in the
Registrar’s Office by Friday, September 18, 1981. Students who have requested information withheld in
the oast must renew their request each year within the first three weeks of the fall semester.
The student must realize that approximately one month is needed to remove this information from
materials already in circulation. However, the campus directory is printed only once a year, and after
printing, no information can be removed.
The student is responsible for renewing this request each September, and the validity of the requests
extends from the date of the request to the following September 1st.
