The Blue Jays, smarting from
ments made by Jenkins a
sk ago, pounded the Rangers
| the second time in as many
es Tuesday night.
“I don’t know about all of the
i, but I think what Fergie said
:d us up,” said center fielder
yd Moseby, who led a 13-hit
tack in a 9-3 Toronto victory.
Jenkins defeated the Blue Jays
It week and afterwards re-
ked, “Anybody can beat
ronto.” Several Blue Jays had
de reference to the remark af-
Toronto took a 3-0 win in the
ms series opener Monday and
talk continued Tuesday night.
‘When a guy says anyone can
at you, it kind of brings out your
de, "said Moseby, who drove in
irruns with a three-run homer
a single Tuesday.
Jl think Texas woke us up.”
doseby’s homer, his eighth of
year, came with two out in the
rth inning and gave Toronto a
lead. He hit a slider off Len
litehouse, the second of four
xas pitchers.
He was hanging the ball all
the plate and I just reached
and got it. Man, it felt good,”
iseby said.
That was the most aggressive
ve been all year, ” Mattick said,
e re starting to hit the ball a lot
'der now.”
Toronto scored in each of the
first five innings.
“It’s our hitting that has been
off — not our pitching. We were
hitting .218 before the strike,
Mattick said. “If we could hit,
we’d be all right.”
Jim Clancy improved his re
cord to 4-8 and scattered nine hits
in pitching his first complete game
of the season. Danny Darwin, 8-7,
was the loser.
The lone highlight for Texas
was the hitting of newcomer Bob
by Jones, one of nine players cal
led up from the Wichita, Kan.,
farm team hours before the game.
Jones entered the game in the
sixth inning and drove in all of
Texas’ runs, smacking a two-run
homer in the seventh and adding
an RBI single in the ninth.
“I didn’t even expect to get into
the game, but (manager Don)
Zimmer said go to left field,” Jones
said.
“I wasn’t nervous. In fact, I felt
good.”
