A workshop concerning recla
mation of lands that have been
surface mined for lignite or ura
nium is set for Oct. 13-14 at the
Holiday Inn located near the
Municipal Airport in San Antonio.
Program highlights will include
sessions on surface and ground-
water hydrology, overburden
handling, revegetation and man
agement of reclaimed land, said
Dr. Ed Colburn, agronomist in
soil management with the Texas
Agricultural Extension Service, a
branch of the Texas A&M Univer
sity System.
The workshop also will feature
a tour of the Continental Oil Co.
Conquista Project uranium mines
to allow participants to observe
mining and reclamation techni
ques.
The workshop is being spon
sored by the Extension Service in
cooperation with the Texas Agri
cultural Experiment Station and
the Center for Energy and Miner
al Resources at Texas A&M. It was
planned by industry reclamation
personnel and will be specifically
for Texas mining conditions, Col
burn said.
Many of the mining and recla
mation management techniques
discussed may be readily adapted
to proposed lignite mines in
Arkansas, Louisiana and Missis
sippi.
Registration forms and addi
tional information regarding the
workshop may be obtained from
the Soil and Crops Department of
Texas A&M.

'i: University officials announced
they will appeal the decision
granting the Bryan-College Sta

the Texas A&M presidency.
pf “We are disappointed, but not
totally surprised and plan to pur
sue the matter on appeal,’’ Vice
Chancellor for Legal Affairs James
B. Bond said. “In fact, we are in
the process of preparing the docu
ments to file an appeal.”
A hearing between the Univer
sity and the Eagle was held Friday
in Austin, and 201st District Judge
Jerry Dellana Monday made the
decision to award the court order
to the Eagle.
if The newspaper has been un
successful in its attempts to ac

Williams said Monday that it may
be two years before the matter is
resolved.
Last week System Chancellor
Frank W.R. Hubert said Univer
sity officials expect to name a pres
ident in the next few weeks but
not before fall semester classes be
gin Aug. 31.

less).
Rates for each are fixed for the term of the certificate. All are automatically renewable. Rates are
established for new certificates weekly (in the case of the 26-week maturity date), twice monthly
(in the case of the 2 1 /2-year maturity date) and daily (in the case of the “Jumbo” certificates). Fed
eral regulations prohibit compounding interest on the 26-week certificate.
There is no need to take your savings out of town to earn maximum rates. For 60 years and more,
Brazos Savings has paid savers the maximum rates permitted by law. We always will.
