A workshop concerning recla mation of lands that have been surface mined for lignite or ura nium is set for Oct. 13-14 at the Holiday Inn located near the Municipal Airport in San Antonio. Program highlights will include sessions on surface and ground- water hydrology, overburden handling, revegetation and man agement of reclaimed land, said Dr. Ed Colburn, agronomist in soil management with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, a branch of the Texas A&M Univer sity System. The workshop also will feature a tour of the Continental Oil Co. Conquista Project uranium mines to allow participants to observe mining and reclamation techni ques. The workshop is being spon sored by the Extension Service in cooperation with the Texas Agri cultural Experiment Station and the Center for Energy and Miner al Resources at Texas A&M. It was planned by industry reclamation personnel and will be specifically for Texas mining conditions, Col burn said. Many of the mining and recla mation management techniques discussed may be readily adapted to proposed lignite mines in Arkansas, Louisiana and Missis sippi.
