Sudden Death In Golf The Intramural Golf Doubles Tournament required a sudden death playoff to decide the Class A Men’s winners. Mike Dawson and John Morrow emerged after 36 holes in a deadlock with David Rhoades and John Weber. Dawson and Morrow needed on ly two holes to decide the winner as they emerged victorious after two holes of sudden death. Class A Co-Rec action saw Sue Harrity and Jeff Bechman top the field by seven strokes to cap ture the title. Trey Schneider and Dayton Schrader of Puryear narrowly defeated the field by one stroke to win the Men’s Class B crown, while Chris Smith and Richard Chalmers won the one day Class C tournament. Quadruple winner Be verly Heck is our McDonald’s® “Be Our Guest” win ner this week. Bev can pick up her B.O.G. card in the Intramural Office. Heck, Davis Dominate All-University Track Beverly Heck and Johnita Davis each won an individual event while joining forces in three re lays to lead the Oreos to a first place in the Women’s Division of the All-University Track Meet last Sunday evening. Their efforts also helped the Oreos to a first place tie with the Kangaroos in the Co-Rec Division. Double wins by Thomas Sanders, Ernest Jack- son, and Jimmy Williams led Cain Hall to the Men’s championship. Mosher and Davis-Gary were the runnerups in the Women’s and Men’s Divisions, respectively. Heck topped the field in the 400 meter dash while Davis outjumped the competition in the Long Jump for their individual honors. The two were joined by Patti Sloat and Debra Minifee in the 400 meter relay, Beth Stallsmith and Pattie Miller in the 1600 meter relay, and Thomas Brow and Rodney Paris in the Co-Rec 800 meter relay. Miller was the only double winner in the Wom en’s Division as she also captured the 1600 meter run. In the Men’s competition, four double winners highlighted the action. Ernest Jackson, Thomas Sanders and Jimmy Williams captured the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the 110 meter low hurdles, respectively before joining forces to capture the 400 meter relay. Davis-Gary’s Steve Johnson ran away from the field in the 400 meter dash and then teamed with William Wynn, David Sims, and Jeff Odom to capture the 1600 meter relay. Distance winners were Mike Reither in the 800 meter, Craig Wiese in the 1600 meter, and Bart Braden in the Master’s Mile. Since this was the first year for the “metric meet ”, records have not yet been converted in the running events. However, four new records were established in the field events. The Men’s A tournament saw SHORT top Dillagof for the Men’s title. SHORT entered the All-U Playoffs in the number 2 seed while Dillagof had been rated number one. Co-Rec A competition ended when D.A.R.K. defeated the Pick Pockets, while Co-Rec B action was culminated when Mixed Magic tipped the Rum Bums. In the only Women’s competi tion (Class B), the Keathley Kurves won the title by topping the Gutter Buds. Men’s C action saw The Youpons win the crown. Team Handball Tryouts Player selection tryouts for Team Handball for the 1981 NA TIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL to be held in Syracuse, New York from July 23 through July 29 will be conducted at fifteen location throughout the United States. One of the locations for the Southern Region is Texas A&M University. Women’s tryouts were May 2 while Men’s tryouts will be May 16. Badminton Wrap-Up Louie Tijerina and Lettie Gonzalez each added two more Class A Badminton cham pionships to their long list of Badminton titles. Tijerina teamed with Gilbert Chozco to win the Class A Men’s crown while Gonzalez joined with her sister, Megda Gonzalez to win the Women’s title. Tijerina and Gonzalez then joined forces to win the Co-Rec A championship. In the Class B competition, Mike Carrol and Danny Valenta were the men’s winners. Valenta then returned to win the Co-Rec B title with DeDe Damian. There was no Class B Women’s Division. Class C action saw Rob Larsen and Alejandio Villena top the Men’s field and Menlinda Reid and Elizabeth Blanchard capture the Women’s title. In th wasted Hughes ger stril Q Kevin Quinlan defeated eigh teen challengers to capture the Annual Intramural Superstars Competition in the Men’s Divi sion while Sheri Scott topped a six women field to claim the Women’s title. Each of these winners will have their names engraved on the Dan Copp Memorial Award designating Su perstars supremacy. Quinlan used first places in the mile run, racquetball, and the obstacles course en route to his championship. He also fin ished third in free throw shoot ing and the 100 meter dash, fourth in weightlifting, and eighth in golf. He tallied 106 points to win the competition. Besides Quinlan’s firsts, other first place finishers in the respec tive events were Jeff Williams (free throw shooting), Mike Bal ias (bowling and 100 meter dash), Tim Brown (100 yard swim) & Mark Scott (weight!- ing and golf). Runner-ups for the overall men’s title were Jon Davis (82 points) and Michael Davis (II points). In capturing the women s ver sion of the event, Sheri Scott took top honors in the 100 meter dash, bowling, the mile run, weightlifting. She recorded sec onds in golf and free thro* shooting and a third in the obsta cle course.
