Aggie junior Sue Oakleaf Dallas wins 2nd straight United Press International DALLAS — Tom LaGarde made a three-point play with three seconds remaining to give the Dallas Mavericks a 120-118 hard fought victory Thursday night over the Golden State War riors. Dallas, in winning its second straight game for the second time in the team’s short NBA history, held off a furious Golden State fourth quarter rally. Purvis Short, who fouled out with seven minutes to go, left the game with a career high 45 points as the Warriors battled back from a 111-103 deficit with 4:28 to go in the game. Rookie Larry Smith took up the slack with six quick points in lead ing the Warriors on a 142 spurt to regain the lead at 117-113 with 52 seconds left. dominated a field of 23 women from across the nation Saturday and Sunday to win her second con secutive national intercollegiate championship. The men on the handball team were: John Welch, Tim Feickert, Richard Harrison, Matt Pokryfki, Bill Moore and Raymond Walkup. Feickert lost to the eventual champion, Kevin Novak from Memphis State, in the quarter finals. Harrison and Moore also lost close matches in the quarterfinals. Welch, Pokryfki and Walkup all performed well in the consolation bracket. Lance Lowy, coach of the hand ball team, expressed satisfaction and optimism because of the team results. The experience gained, Lowy said, will help all the players. The University of Texas and Lake Forest College of Chicago tied for first in the team standings while Memphis State took second. Texas A&M beat out such hand ball powers as the University of Cincinnati, California-Berkeley and Montana for third place. The Handball Club will send 40 to 50 players to Austin March 27- 29 for the Southwest Divisional Handball Tournament. The tour nament will draw top players from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
