Register at the Placement Office Equal Opportunity Employer M/F A&M accepts wills for body donations By PAMELA FADES Battalion Reporter Although few people know it, the Texas A&M College of Medi cine anatomy department accepts wills from persons wishing to don ate their bodies for research after they die. The department receives about two or three wills a month, but it has tried to minimize publicity of the program because there is only limited space to store willed bodies. Dr. Jackson W. Wagner, the department head, said. Minimum publicity and limited storage space has created some what of a dilemma, however. The College of Medicine needs at least 10 bodies a year, Wagner said, and only four bodies have been received as a result of wills in the past two years, he said. Baylor College of Medicine supplies the difference. “Our situation is not unique at all,” Wagner said. “It’s part of the growing pains ... of a new school that really still doesn’t have its own physical facility in opera tion.” Storage space for 100 bodies will become available when the new Medical Sciences Building is finished, Wagner said. Until the building is finished, however, willed bodies are being stored at Baylor College of Medi cine in Houston and shipped to the anatomy department in Col lege Station as they are needed. Baylor College of Medicine has been storing willed bodies for the department since the program be gan three years ago, Wagner said. Most of these bodies are used for dissection by first-year medical students. After the students are finished, the bodies are cremated at the Brookside Crematory in Houston. Ashes are then interred or returned to relatives. Four commanders selected for Corps Four major unit commanders of Texas A&M University’s Corps of Cadets have been selected to lead the Corps next year. David Moyer, a computer science major from San Antonio, will command the First Brigade. Moyer is a Drill and Ceremonies cadet. Bruce Dunn, a physical education major from Cochranville, Pa., will command the First Regiment. Dunn is a marine contract cadet. Frank Knickerbocker, a physics major from Austin, will command the FOIRST Wing. Knickerbocker is an air force contract cadet. James Hughes, an accounting major from Abilene, will command the combined band. Hughes is under army contract. MORE AT PIZZA INN If you like more, this is where it begins.
