The four lecturers and lecture
dates are:
— March 27 — Henry Steele
Commager, historian, educator
and author of numerous books and
articles, will give a lecture spon
sored by the College of Liberal
Arts. The topic has not been deter
mined yet.
— April 3 — Arthur B. Laffer,
professor of business economics at
the University of Southern Cali
fornia and advisor for the Reagan
administration, will give a lecture
sponsored by the College of Busi
ness Administration. That topic is
also undetermined.
— April 13 — David Hamburg,
director of health policy at the
John F. Kennedy School of Gov
ernment at Harvard University,
will speak on “Health Policy
Issues in the 1980’s.” The lecture

The University Lecture Com
mittee is composed of one faculty
representative from each college,
one representative each from the
library and the Memorial Student
Center and three students.
In alphabetical order starting
with the College of Agriculture,
each college is allowed to choose
an outstanding lecturer from off-
campus, McDonald said. He
added that final approval of the
lecturer comes from the com
mittee.
The first lecture series started
in 1968. It is funded by the Univer
sity, which sets aside a budget for
the committee, McDonald said.
The faculty lecturer, who is
chosen by the committee, is usual
ly an outstanding member of his
field as well as a good speaker,
McDonald said. “The faculty lec
turer talks about his field,” he
said, “but generally we try to get
them to broaden it (their topic)
out.”
This year’s faculty lecturer was
Dr. John McDermott, head of the
philosophy and humanities de
partment.
