"We commend President Reagan and his administration for putting an immediate end to federal price con trols on crude oil,” said Edwin L. Cox of Dallas, president of the Texas Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Associa tion. “The removal of price controls, which have existed for nine years, will permit the petroleum industry in this country to operate in the same manner as other U.S. businesses. “During this period both produc tion and reserves have dropped and our energy shortage has become more acute. Imports increased from 29 percent (in 1972) to as much as 48 percent (in 1977) of demand.” Cox said Reagan’s action would lessen dependence on foreign oil by encouraging domestic exploraton and drilling. He also said it would hasten the development of expen sive and sophisticated recovery sys tems, permitting the maximum re covery of hydrocarbon resources. He also said it would encourage development of alternative energy sources. A spokesman for Shell Oil echoed Cox’s praise for Reagan. “There’s no question that decon trol will result in an increased search for new domestic crude and thus will ultimately reduce dependence on imported oils,” the company state ment said. “Of course, a significant benefit for the nation is removal of the costly administrative burden which resulted from this program. "Shell anticipates that this early transition to crude, motor gasoline and propane decontrol will proceed as smoothly as did the transition when controls on other products were lifted in recent years.” George P. Mitchell of Mitche| Energy and Development Corpj said “every oilman in the countn now has added incentive to explorj for and produce more oil and gas. 1 “The president, in effect, is telliri our industry ‘full speed ahead! ” Free Spring Break Skiing Vacation jStftmarfi Ski Lodge and Guest Ranch Winter Park Colorado register at JflUlEAR CLAjfif 209 E University 846-4771 ragteter once per haircut Appearing LIVE Thursday Night IVI I? fHITlMPT Ivllvl/ Ia!WJuII 81.00 Cover au ^J^iamond at Now through Valentine's Day take advantage of our tremendous inventory of loose diamonds in all shapes, sizes and qualities.
