The Texas A&M University lacros
se team begins its fall workouts today
at 4 p.m. on the drill field.
Anyone who is interested in play
ing should either come by the drill
field this week at 4 p.m. any day or
phone 846-8158 for further informa
tion.
The lacrosse team piled up an im
pressive fall record this past semes
ter in scrimmages with an 8-0 mark.
“We should do pretty well this
spring,” team member Duke Whe
lan noted Sunday. “We have some
good guys and now some experi
ence.”
The Aggies first action of this
semester will come Feb. 1 against
the Houston Lacrosse Club on the
drill field.

er Indoor Relays at the Myriad Arena
in Oklahoma City.
The Aggie men were led by Olym
pian Jimmy Howard, who claimed
the high jump crown with a T-OVz
leap.
Head Men’s Coach Charlie Tho
mas had labeled the meet as only a
warm-up, and the Aggies had very
little warm-up time before heading
for Oklahoma.
One pleasant surprise was a
second-place showing by Rod “Rock
et” Richardson in the 60-yard dash.
The freshman from Louisiana
streaked to a 6.23 time.
In other action, Billy Busch
finished fourth in the 60-yard high
hurdles (7.61), Leslie Kerr took third
in the 440-yard dash (49.21) and
Kevin McGinnis was third in the
shot put with a 58-2V2 effort.
Baylor won the men’s meet with
89 points, followed by SMU with 56
and the Ags with 52.
In women’s action, the Aggies
were third with 58 points behind
Oklahoma with 116 and Texas
Woman’s University with 74. Hie
Aggie showing was a good one due to
the fact only seven A&M womea
competed.
Ellen Smith finished second in tie
600-yard dash with a 1:28.63 clod-
ing and Sandra Cooper was secondii
the 300-yard dash with a 36.22 time,
Suzanne Sheffield was second in the
mile in 5:14.7. The mile relay teamo(|

After a record-setting fall that saw thousands of en
trants in intramural sports, the Texas A&M University
Intramural-Recreational Sports Department is expect
ing big things this spring.
Twenty-four events highlight the spring intramural
calendar, ranging from basketball to fencing.
The first special event of the spring semester will be
the free throw contest. Entries for this competition will
open Monday, Jan. 26. Participants may enter indi
vidually, or as members of a team.
