RE WARD. 696-2822. 54a United Press International HOLLYWOOD - More than a third of the nation will tune in “Dal las” Friday night, surpassing by far those who watched the presidential election returns, to discover who shot dastardly J.R. Ewing, the man America loves to hate. CBS-TV estimates the prime-time soap opera will have a 75 percent share of the audience, or more than 70 million viewers. The Carter- Reagan election returns, on the other hand, didn’t even show up on the top 60 of the Nielson ratings the first week of November. The saga of J. R. ’s brush with death began last March when an unseen assailant pumped a couple of slugs into the millionaire oilman, thereby touching off an international who dunit. The mystery was heightened when English bookmakers and Las Vegas gamblers began taking bets on the cast of suspects in the hour-long series, which stars Larry Hagman in the role of the Texas philanderer and oil tycoon. “Dallas,” which is seen in dozens of foreign countries as well as the United States and Canada, received additional hype when last summer’s actors’ strike postponed the solution to who shot J.R. by two months. Earlier this week, Queen Mother Elizabeth of England voiced her re gret at not knowing the name of the ATTENTION DECEMBER GRADUATES!
