Bodies of 2 found
by diver in river
United Press International
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. —A diver Tuesday found the bodies
of a 4-month girl and her 18-month old sister floating in the frigid
Arkansas River several hundred yards from where their father alleged
ly tossed them off a bridge in front of a horrified cab driver.
Little Rock police also said the diver, Sgt. John Lee, had found the
billfold of David Allen Jackson,20, the girls’ father, in the river near
where he found the bodies of Latoryja Jackson and her older sister,
Lakisha.
Police said they now believe Jackson hurled himself into the river
Sunday night after he took a cab to the middle of the Main Street bridge
and tossed the girls into the cold water.
Divers and police with drag lines will continue to search the river for
Jackson’s body, a Little Rock police spokesman said.
“We’re going under the assumption he’s in the river even though
we’ve issued murder warrants for him,” said Pulaski County sheriffs
spokesman Gene Stewart. “Since we found his billfold, we believe he
jumped, too.”
The girls’ bodies were taken to the Pulaski County coromer’s office,
where their mother, Aline Colston, 19, was asked to identify them, the
spokesman said.
Lee found the bodies of the two children floating under a railroad
bridge next to the river bank on the Little Rock side.
