It was the fourth loss in a row for A&M. Zach Guthrie (74) watches. A&M has a week off this week, and faces Arkansas in Fayetteville Nov. 15. By JON HEIDTKE Battalion Staff Texas A&M women’s basketball team will host St. Mary’s in full scrimmage at 4 p.m. this afternoon in DeWare Fieldhouse. On Saturday, the Aggies scrim maged Tyler Junior College and came out on the short end of the outside of practice. “We played well for only about eight minutes,” she said. One reason the Aggies played sloppy was Rapp substituted her players freely. “We are in the process of hunting for a combination of five players who can play together,” she said. On the whole, the Aggies shot very poorly, connecting on only 20 percent of their second half shots. “We had good shot selection, but couldn’t hit them,” the second-year coach said, “especially the follow shot off a rebound. ” So this week in practice, the Aggies have been doing a lot of work on shooting under the basket. Rapp has also spent a great deal of time this week on the press. “We had breakdowns on the press because it always seemed one girl was out of place, which resulted in an easy basket for Tyler,” she said. Though the team didn’t play well, Rapp singled out two individuals who did. “Trigg Crawford had a real good game and was the only one to shoot very well,” she said. Joyce Bottley, a freshman from Rapp said involves over-playing the Kountze, played a very good defen- )a J, an “ double-teaming, sive game, Rapp said. „ For toda y s , St Mar V s scrimmage, Rapp says she hopes to see her young Practice this week has also stres- team improve on the fast break and sed good aggressive defense, which the press n n n n n n n n n n n n n NEW NOVEMBER FLAVORS • Alice’s Marble Fudge • Black Walnut • Pumpkin Culpepper Plaza • College Station n'n'f i'f Pn'n'n'n'n’n'n'nVf • -- 1 f* 0 1 f* F ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Running attack tails tor Cowboys \ manor^st 3 United Press International DALLAS — Dallas coach Tom pry said Monday that yes, the wboys running game was defi- mt, that, no, he wasn’t all that wor- p about it, and yes, measures P being taken to correct the situa- lespite a 7-2 record, just a game p of the streaking Philadelphia is in the NFC East, Dallas’ run- ijgame has taken a recent siesta. Taylor scored 31 points and ooks, the Clippers No. 1 draft ikj had 24. Guard Phil Smith con- buted 19 for San Diego. Dallas led early in the second tarter by four but a San Diego rush it the Clippers in front at the half, -55. San Diego moved in front by many as 19 points in the third tarter and Dallas could get no clos- than four points in the fourth arter. Tom LaGarde, moved from center forward by coach Dick Motta, led i Mavericks with 23 points while wcomer Bill Robinzine had 16. ioff Huston and Jim Spanarkel had each. Tony Dorsett has gained a rela tively modest 466 yards this season and fullback Ron Springs, who took over the starting fullback position from Robert Newhouse, has been slowed by an ankle injury and New house is now starting again. But when it comes to fixing the blame, Landry said there were all sorts of possibilities. “You can place the blame any where you want to,” said Landry. “When you don’t run, you don’t run. You can say you didn’t have a good game plan, that you didn’t block very well or that you didn’t run very well. “When you gain 58 yards you have to work at it, or not work at it. We can do better in every area and we will do it.” The running attack is currently ab out the only missing segment the Cowboys need to become a top-flight challenger for the Super Bowl, so it is obvious that Landry will be spending some time on the ground game. “Our objective this week is to work the running game hard, ” Land ry said. “We have been concentrat ing a lot in the passing area because of the blitzing and stunting we have seen the last few weeks from San Diego and St. Louis. “We probably neglected the run ning game a little. Now we have to get back to the running game. We will review a lot of our plays and cut it down some as far as selection of plays and hopefully this will help. “A lot of times through season, when you look back in retrospect, you continue to run a play that looks sound to you but it never works on the field. And it ends up with a low average week in and week out. It seems like a potentially good play, ^ butitdoesn’tjellintoagoodplay. So ^ we are going to try to do the things we do best.” CAMPUS 210 University WHO WILL BE MR. MACHO?
