Get Together?
SOMETHING INCREDIBLE!!!
Parking spaces converted
By JENNIFER AFFLERBACH
I Battalion Staff
i Eleven cars have lost their parking spaces on the
Texas A&M University campus and 88 motorcycles
have found them.
The 11 parallel parking spaces next to the Plant
ciences Building on Nagle Street were converted into
18 motorcycle spaces in August.
Col. Thomas Parsons, director of security and traffic,
laid the switch was made to use the space more
jfficiently and not as an indication of a shortage of
notorcycle parking on campus.
The area is inconvenient for parking automobiles
muse the street dead ends, making it difficult to get
mt, Parsons said.
“If we can get 88 motorcycles for 11 cars, it’s a pretty
iod trade off,” Parsons said.
Motorcycles may be parked only in spaces desig
nated for motorcycles. They may not be parked in
spaces marked for automobiles or in bicycle racks,
according to Texas A&M motor vehicle regulations.
Parsons said motorcycle riders often pass up their
parking spaces to park in the mall areas closer to their
classrooms.
Last year, complaints were received from professors
in Bolton Hall and Harrington Education Center about
the motorcycles parked outside those buildings, Par
sons said. The noise from motorcycles starting up was
disturbing their classes, he said.
Motorcycle parking is assigned to prevent any waste
of space in parking lots, Parsons said.
In the new parking lot at Kyle Field, for example,
two parking spaces that are blocked by a tree are being
converted to accommodate about 10 motorcycles.
“You couldn’t park there unless you drove over the
tree or chopped it down,” he said.
Or, of course, unless you ride a motorcycle.

Clark, Kemp come to campus
By BECKY SWANSON
Battalion Staff
The Libertarian Party presiden
tial candidate and the co-author of
the Reagan-endorsed Kemp-Roth
tax bill will speak Thursday in sepa-
ate presentations sponsored by the
MSG Political Forum Committee.
Congressman Jack Kemp, R-NY,
be stumping for Republican
andidate Ronald Reagan at 12:30
p.m. in Rudder Theater.
Ed Clark, Libertarian Party pre-
idential candidate, will speak on
the topic “Big Government in
^Crisis” at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudder
eater.
Both programs are free.
Kemp co-authored the bill de
fended by Reagan in Tuesday
night’s presidential debate which
includes a 30 percent tax cut over a
three-year period.
Kemp was under consideration
for Reagan’s vice-presidential run
ning mate during the Republican
National Convention.
Clark, a Los Angeles resident
who has been with the Libertarian
Party since its conception in 1972,
received SVz percent of the vote in
the 1978 California gubernatorial
race.
According to a Clark press re
lease, the Libertarian Party es
pouses the belief “that people
should be free to run their lives as
they choose, and to accept responsi
bility for their own actions, so long
as their actions are peaceful, honest
and voluntary.”
Efforts to arrange a debate be
tween Clark and Independent can
didate John Anderson at Texas
A&M University fell through, Way
ne Bailey, Political Forum publicity
chairman, said.
A spokesman for Anderson said
Monday that Anderson would ac
cept an invitation to participate in a
debate which included President
Carter, but he had no plans to de
bate Clark individually.
