Ronald Reagan to the U. S. Presidency by a wide margin in Wednesday’s mock election spon sored by the MSC Political Forum Committee. The Reagan-George Bush Repub lican ticket received 67.47 percent of the votes (1,228). Democratic in cumbent President Jimmy Carter, running with Vice President Walter Mondale, received 17.41 percent (317) votes. Independent candidate John Anderson took 10.93 percent (199), and Libertarian Party candidate Ed Clark took 4.17 percent (76). In the District 5 state senate race, Republican N. A. McNiel beat Democrat Kent Caperton with 922 votes over Caperton’s 694. A closer race gave Democrat Phil Gramm 835 votes to represent the 6th U. S. Congressional District. Re publican Dave Haskins received 735 votes in that race. Students working three booths set up around campus took in 1,866 bal lots. However, Chairman Sam Gilles pie said 46 fewer votes were tabu lated in the presidential race because that many voters failed to complete their computer card ballots cor rectly. Gillespie said his committee was pleased with the voter turnout which indicated student interest in the na tional elections set for Nov. 4. The 1,866 votes represent a 5.57 percent turnout of the students cur rently enrolled at Texas A&M. The nation’s voter turnout figure for the 1976 election was 56.5 per cent. City Council to examine gas service The College Station City Council will hold a regular council meeting at 7 p.m. in City Hall. On the agenda are public hearings to examine service standards for. Lone Star Gas Co. and to accept proposals for the 1981 Community Development program. White denies charge on vote fraud issue United Press International AUSTIN — Attorney General Mark White accused a representa tive of the secretary of state’s office Wednesday of lying to a group inves tigating voting irregularities in Texas. White said Doug Cady had told the committee the attorney general’s office had not followed through on three complaints of voting irregular ities referred to his office by the sec retary of state. “Lies, all lies,’’ White said. “I just happened to have been in San Antonio today meeting with in vestigators from the district attor ney’s office and Texas Rangers in re gard to these matters. I regret Mr. Cady didn’t have the good judgment to make inquiry before he let his mouth start operating.” White said officials of the secretary of state’s office had presented him with allegations concerning voting irregularities in Bexar, Frio and San Patricio counties. “The one in Bexar County was already under investigation since shortly after the primary.
