Kunze as vice chairman and reactivated the Committee on Broadening Curricula Tuesday. Kunze is a professor of agricultural engineering. He received his B.S. degree from Texas A&M University in 1951, his Ph.D. from Michigan | State University in 1964 and re turned to work here in 1956. Dr. J.M. Prescott, vice president for academic affairs, suggested the reactivation of the Committee on Broadening Curricula. This commit- i tee will work on broadening the stu- j dent’s education, Prescott said. It can’t be considered a free elective program, he said, but an attempt to | get students to take courses in areas not directly connected to their major field of study. The council also approved the addition of 25 new courses, the with drawal of 110 courses and five changes in course titles. Changes in the safety engineering curriculum were also approved. These include changing the en gineering science elective in the first semester of the junior year to read technical elective, moving the tech nical elective to the first semester of the senior year, and moving Indust rial Engineering 320 to the first semester of the junior year. “These changes will not affect the program but give the added flexibil ity of permitting a student to select an elective from either engineering science or engineering design courses,” said Newton C. Ellis, head of the Department of Industrial En gineering. Dr. Charles Samson proposed holding brainstorming sessions dur ing future meetings. These would be held after the formal agenda had been completed. Anyone interested could discuss topics like the compu ter problem, ways to improve com munication and any other timely problems. No official action would be taken during this period, Samson said. Photo by Bob Lewis Got any mice? Eddie Chiles, the independent “oilman known to Texans for his “I’m ad ...” political-comment televi sion and radio commercials, en- idorsed the Ronald Reagan-George SBush ticket Wednesday at a break- fast at College Station’s Ramada Inn. “We’ve got to fight the second merican Revolution 204 years after e first war. And we’ve got to fight ithballots, not bullets,” Chiles said of the approaching election. “We’re freedom fighters,” the hief executive officer of Western brporation said. What can Reagan do for Texas? biles said Reagan will secure the 12 to 14 percent inflation rate, although it will take time to balance the budget. And he said Reagan will re duce government regulation. “Texans are the kind of people that want their freedoms. They don’t want to be fenced in,” he said. If the Democrats are defeated, Chiles said, “Then they’ll have to come back and live under all the laws they have made.” Two different political philo sophies are represented in the three nain Presidential candidates, Chiles ;aid. He said President Carter and In dependent John Anderson share the theme: “If I get elected President, I’m going to see the government does all these things for you.” On the other hand. Chiles said, Reagan believes the federal govern ment should turn back many of its functions to state, county and local governments. “Let’s let the local government do the things that it can do. They can do it better and they can do it cheaper,” Chiles said. “The closer government is to the people, the better the government will get, ” is a Thomas Jefferson quote Chiles said Reagan often uses. For the last 50 years. Chiles said, the federal government has been taking in tax money, skimming off a large part for itself and turning the rest back to the people, with qualifi cations. “They say, ‘We’re giving you all this money ... You go ahead and spend it like we tell you to spend it,”’ Chiles said. Chiles said of deficit spending, “Those liberal Democrats keep spending money that they don’t have, and that’s the crudest tax of all.” CUBIC ZIRICONIA Hand-cut Hand-polished Russian Man-made DIAMONDS $25/1 Kt. $20/2 Kt. or more $30/Kt. for fancy cuts 846-0636 822-1693 after 6:00 p.m. T.J/S presents the CLAY MAC BAND Oct. 23, 24 St 25 in support of Country & Western month LISTEN TO KORA-FM FOR RECORD QIVE-A-WAYI 9 RESTAURANT ^ AND % CLUB 696-0388 lob Hancock , Hall Presij accompanif M-UMA piO (MKEffiA'gf FOOTBALL MUMS!
