Aggie ski club
to head for slopes
By GLENN KRAMPOTA
Battalion Reporter
Jean-Claude Killy probably will not be there. And chances are
former President Gerald Ford will be doing his skiing elsewhere, too.
But 120 Aggies will be in Breckenridge, Colo., Jan. 10-17 on a ski
trip sponsored by the Texas A&M University Snow Ski Club. The trip
is open to all club members, said Terry Gerber, vice-president.
The cost of the ski trip depends on the method of transportation used
to get to Breckenridge. Gerber said the cost by plane is $375; by bus,
$315. This price includes transportation, housing in condominiums
and four days of lift tickets.
No skill or experience is needed to join the club, although there is a
$4 membership fee, Gerber said. She estimated that over 50 percent of
those going on the trip are beginners.
Gerber said anyone interested in going on the trip should join the
club and sign a waiting list at the Snow Ski Club cubicle in the Student
Programs Office.
Although the 120 spaces allocated for the trip are filled right now,
Gerber said, many students often cancel their reservations, giving
those on the waiting list a good chance to go on the trip.
On Jan. 10, Gerber said, 34 people will depart from Houston on a
Continental Airlines flight, and 86 people will leave College Station on
Jan. 9, aboard buses.
She said there will likely be more vacancies or no-shows on the
buses. .
A party and ski races are among activities planned for the trip,
Gerber said. Members will be able to compete against both the clock
and someone of similar skiing ability. In addition, she said, Texas A&M
club members may have a chance to race against members of the
University of Houston ski club.
A ski trip has also been scheduled for spring break, Gerber said.
Members will either go to Crested Butte or Steamboat Springs, both of
which are in Colorado.
Those desiring further information on any ski club activity may come
by the cubicle or call 845-2843.
