Class of 1981 president Jess Mason with electronic chimes, which will be presented to Texas A&M University Saturday. The Carillons start play Saturday Bells will be ringing across the Texas A&M University campus start ing Saturday. A set of electronic carillons will be presented to the University from the class of 1981. The dedication ceremony will be in front of the Memorial Student Center at 10 a.m. The carillons will replace the old set of chimes which have not been working since 1978. They will ring daily every 15 minutes, at football games and Silver Taps. The $12,000 carillons are operated by a computer and read music scrolls that include 108 different songs. "We wanted a gift that would be lasting and something that would serve the entire university,” said senior class president Jess Mason. “We’re dedicating the gift early so that the seniors can enjoy it.” Photo by J. The concert is presented by the classical piano group at Texas A&M University. Featured soloist will be Carl Fis cher, 9, pianist from Dallas who be gan his piano studies in Bryan while his father attended the College of Veterinary Medicine. Carl, who cur rently studies piano at the University of Texas at Dallas, is the son of Roger and Lucia Fischer of Dallas. The Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Paul Kirby of Hous ton, will present work by Haydn, Rossini, Dvorak and Sibelius.
