For a Good Look at the Times TM Frat barred while hazing investigated United Press International FORT WORTH — A Texas Christian University fraternity is being investigated because 16 pledges allegedly were forced to strip and smear themselves with grease. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon national organization has suspended the TCU chapter — barring it from taking in new members — while it determines if the chapter should keep its charter. Last week TCU’s interfratemity council found Sigma Alpha Epsilon guilty of an undisclosed hazing viola tion after the fraternity admitted the charge was true. University and fraternity officials have declined to reveal details of the Oct. 2 hazing incident but the TCU student newspaper reported the pledges were forced to smear the grease-like substance on their bodies at a fraternity beer-drinking party and were further harassed when they returned to their dorms to clean up. McIntyre will speak on “The Appeal of Christianity to a Scientist. ” Jon Farris, president of the Methodist Student Movement at Texas A&M University, said the purpose of the lecture series is to communi cate a Christian message to students in a way they can understand — as it relates to their careers. It is designed to be of interest to Christians and non-Christians alike, he said. The speakers will discuss application of Christianity to their daily lives and academic disciplines, Farris said. Other professors to speak in the series include Dr. Murray Milford, professor of agronomy, on “Living with the Christian Faith”; Dr. Buck Buckingham, professor of building construction, on “Business, Society and Ethics”; Dr. Walter Bradley, mechanical engineering professor, on “The Rethinking of Evolution,” and Dr. Dale Knobel, history professor, on “Christianity and its Role in American History.” The lectures will be presented on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in Room 141 of the Memorial Student Center. A question and answer period will follow each lecture. Refreshments will be served. The series opened last week with a lecture by Texas A&M Chancel lor Frank W.R. Hubert, who spoke on “Christian Living in a Secular World.” The Methodist Student Movement is a campus outreach ministry of the United Methodist Church.
