Twenty schools from seven states attended the tournament. Senior Michael Shelby of Victoria and sophomore Ruby Daniels of San Antonio defeated the University of Utah in the final round in a unani mous decision. Shelby and Daniels ranked second and fourth in the senior division. Earlier, they debated teams from the University of Texas at Arlington, Baylor University, Eastern New Mexico State University, North Texas State University, Odessa Junior College, and Mississippi Uni versity for Women. Sophomore Mike Feeny of Santa Fe, N.M., freshman Jeff Rouse of Bryan, junior Lanie Kobeluch of Stafford, and Scott McGraw of Hous ton competed in the junior division, assisting in accumulating sweep- stakes points.
