ISS Filing for freshman offices closed By MARGARITA JAIME Battalion Reporter A total of 94 Texas A&M Universi ty freshmen have filed to run for Class of ’84 officers. The entry breakdowns are as fol lows: president, 19; vice-president, 10; secretary/treasurer, 9; social sec retary, 5; and student senator, 51. “That’s what we expected,” Leah Whitby, election commissioner for Student Government said Wednes day. “It’s about the same as last year.” In a telephone interview, Whitby said: “We had a pretty good voter turnout last year, and we re expect ing a better one this year. “The last two years there has been a big boom in students filing for offices,and the freshmen are really getting involved in Student Govern ment.” Entries for freshmen class offices closed Tuesday, and elections are scheduled to be held on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Election booths will be set up at the Harrington Education Complex, Sbisa Dining Hall, the Corps of Cadets Guard Room, the lobby of the Memorial Student Center, and the Commons. Freshmen will vote fof one candi date for each office, except student senator. Freshmen will vote for seven senator candidates. A majority vote is required to elect class officers except senators, who will be determined by the seven highest totals. Run-off elections will be held on Oct. 22, if necessary.
