    Dancin’
music king

Dennis Ivey has come a long way from the days when he sang
along with a cafe jukebox.
“I was born back during the Hank Williams days,” Ivey said in a
soft Texas drawl. “They used to pay me a nickel to sing along with the
jukebox.”
Ivey’s not just singing along anymore. He has his own band, the
Waymen, and plays dancin’ music for Aggies two nights a week at
the Lakeview Club.
"I’ve been playing out here for the Aggies for about 12 years now,”
Ivey said Thursday between sets at the club. “I’ve really enjoyed
playing for them."
Going to see Dennis Ivey on Thursday night has been a long
standing event, and last week the club added a Wednesday night
special featuring Ivey.
“This (Thursday night) is supposed to be a tradition,” Ivey said. “I
do appreciate all the support that the Aggies have given us.”
Lakeview was the only place for Aggies to go dancing when he
started playing'there, Ivey said.
Now, he said, people who danced to his music as students bring
their children to the club and point him out.
Ivey, 31, said he has to check for gray hairs when this happens.
Six years ago, a sign proclaiming the Lakeview Club as “Home of
Dennis Ivey and the Waymen” went up behind the bandstand. Ivey
