Astros lose ground, 2-0;
Rangers bea t \ tihva ukee
United Press International
HOUSTON — Pete Vuckovich, returning to the
mound following a two-week rest, pitched an eight-
hitter Sunday and also singled home a run to lead the St.
Louis Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over the Houston
Astros.
Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers rode the arm of Doc
Medich to a 7-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in
Milwaukee.
The victory gave St. Louis a split of the four-game
series and dropped the second-place Astros two games
behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers in the Na
tional League West. The two teams will begin a two-
game series Tuesday night.
Ted Simmons’ two-out run-scoring single in the first
inning staked the Cardinals to a 1-0 lead and Vuckovich
singled home a run in the second to tag Ken Forsch with
his 12th loss in 22 decisions.
Vuckovich worked his way out of two, two-out jams by
getting Cesar Cedeno to ground out both times.
Vuckovich, 10-9, struck out six and walked one in
notching his third shutout and seventh complete game.
The loss was the Astros seventh in their last 24 games
while the Dodgers have won 17 of their last 20 games.
Mike Richardt singled three times and drove in three
runs and Doc Medich posted his 100th major-league
victory Sunday in leading the Texas Rangers to a 7-2
victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Texas took a 2-1 lead in the second after loading the
bases with two outs. Jim Sundberg doubled before star
ter Bob McClure, 2-7, hit Pepe Frias with a pitch and
walked Bud Harrelson. Richardt followed with a two-
run single.
The Rangers made it 5-1 in the third on a run-scoring
double by Richie Zisk and RBI singles by John Ellis and
Sundberg. Richart singled home another Texas run in
the fifth and Frias’ third single of the game delivered the
Rangers last run in the sixth.
Medich boosted his record to 12-9 by scattering 13
hits, including four singles by Paul Molitor, over 8%
innings. Medich struck out five and walked none before
being replaced by John Johnson, who came in the ninth
to get the final out.

Field testing bothers
some A&M students
If you live on campus and your
studying was interrupted by strains
of the Carpenters or Willie Nelson
this weekend, don’t blame it on your
neighbor’s blaring stereo — it was
the new sound system in Kyle Field
being tested.
Technicians from the Rudder
Theater Complex are presently test
ing the new system which is set up in
the Kyle Field scoreboard. They
tested this weekend l. "cause the
football team was out ot f own and
they can’t test while the team prac
tices.
The loud music caused several stu
dents to call the University police
and complain.
One of the technicians said despite
the complaints, nothing can he done
since the system must be tested.
The system will be tested again
next weekend.
