Magazine poll gives
edge to Carter, Reagan
United Press International
AUSTIN —The last of five Texas
Monthly presidential preference
polls showed President Carter lead
ing the Democratic side and former
California Gov. Ronald Reagan lead
ing the Republican side in Texas.
The poll, conducted April 16-19,
was based on surveys of 1,000 reg
istered voters in Texas.
The president led Kennedy by
69.1 percent to 22.1 percent.
Reagan had a more commanding
lead over Texan George Bush, 75
percent to 21.4 percent.
In the general election in Novem
ber, the magazine said, a Carter-
Reagan contest would be a virtual
tie, while Carter would beat Bush.
However, the poll showed, both
Reagan and Bush could easily beat
Kennedy.
