Last weekend, the drill team won the Texas state championship. Teams place 2nd in meet, but win state championship “It’s kind of an emotional experi ence,” Michael Holmes, drill team commander, said, adding the state championship has been their goal all year. Anita Bowden, commander of the women’s team, said it was their big gest competition of the year. Their chief rival, the women’s team from the Air Force Academy, came in first at the Trinity meet, but Bowden said the two groups have a friendly rivalry. Ttwas a lot of fun,’’ she said. Both groups also marched in the Battle of Flowers parade, which is part of San Antonio’s Fiesta Week activities. The groups competed in three areas: inspection, basic drill and pre cision drill, senior drill team adviser Jim Brewer said. The fish competed with actual weapons, while the women were in the mock weapon division. They were graded by a Marine Corps judge. The fish team came in second in all events, behind the University of Texas-Arlington. UT-A didn’t come to the Texas A&M meet, so the Aggies had an advantage in adding up point totals for the state cham pionship. The women’s team placed first in the inspection category and second behind the Air Force Academy in basic and fancy drill. Holmes said the basic drill differs from fancy drill because while each team does the same basic drill, each has its own fancy drill also, where it can show off. Inspection is worth 200 points, basic drill 350, and fancy 450. The final placing is based on the total of the three. The fish drill team is composed solely of freshman members of the Corps of Cadets, while the women’s drill team is open to any female cadet. #■ PARTY SET-UPS r & 7 A.M. 11 P.M. % % ICE 693-4750 RHEA'S Country Store 2751 Longmire, C!». 693-8733 i.-5 gif l.-l pi VM BEER GARDEN Appearing This Week THURSDAY » co'&n^ $ 1 00 FRIDAY & SATURDAY RON CRICK *2 00 4410 College Main $4.11 xyan i it! ■s RING DANCE PHOTOS CANDID PROOFS WILL BE ON DISPLAY Tuesday through Friday 11 A.M.-3 P.M. After that, the price might go up. But for those of you who don’t have the money, don’t worry because orders are sent out every month. These orders are based on mid semester grade reports, and the next orders will be based on final grade reports. However, the price of $310 for men and $131.31 for women will no longer be guaranteed after May 1. The ring clerk, Carolyn Swanzy, said prices fluctuate each month, but the manufacturer agreed to guarantee the current price for the past two months. “Most students order their rings during the summer when they are working and have money, she said. For those students willing to spend more money, diamonds are available. These range from $40 to $567 depending on the size and quality of the diamond. Orders may be placed from 8 to 11:30 a. m. and from 1 to 4:30 p. m. in Heaton Hall. save energy a very bright idea u ** c £ 1!
