McCall announced any Baylor stu dent agreeing to pose nude would be subject to disciplinary action. McCall’s decision aroused the cri ticism of several editors of Baylor’s student newspaper, The Baylor Lariat. The editors were subse quently fired, which in turn caused the resignation of most of the Lariat staff and two journalism faculty members. Due to the telephone threat, Chan has been conducting all interviews under armed guard. Chan said the threat was an iso lated incident, and he has found sup port. “There is a guy here (from Baylor) right now with me who is training to be a minister,” said Chan. “He takes you for what you are and doesn’t con demn anyone. He doesn’t condemn anyone as sinners or anything. He’s a very bright young man. Baylor is the last stop for Chan on his conference tour, and he said he doesn’t expect any further trouble. On March 7, Dr. Dennis Hale be came the second professor to resign because of the controversy. “I resigned effective at the end of the summer,” he said. “It was over the whole series of events. The more stringent guidelines the administra tion has placed on the Lariat was one factor. “Also, the way they paid off’ (Dr. Donald) Williams for the rest of the year. I d never seen that done before to a faculty member. Williams resigned March 1 effec tive at the end of this semester, but was paid the remainder of his con tract and relieved of his position by Dr. Loyal Gould, head of the jour nalism department, when he re ported to work the following week. Hale said he doesn’t expect the same fate. “No, there’s been no problem, he said. “1 really don’t expect any.” Ralph Strother, student publica tions adviser, agreed. “He’s handled his situationdil rently (than Williams), he said. "He hasn’t become angry or bitter. He’s not been really outspoken about it. "Williams was very visible and very angry about it. 1m sorry tosee Dennis go, we’re good friends." New editors for The Lariat will be selected in a special Student Publica tions Board meeting on March 24.11 the meantime, the paper has sus pended publication.
