Five persons remained at Memo rial Hospital Southeast Wednesday but were listed in good condition. They were exposed to the gas — de scribed as nontoxic, but irritant—on Tuesday. Gene New, of the Houston Health Department’s Air Quality Control Division, said Stauffer was issued a violation notice for the 6 p.m. CST Tuesday emission. The leak lasted 15 minutes and plagued area residents and Hobby Airport patrons. FORI’ l 6 ^ I STEAK HOUSE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE IN GOOD FOOD, FUN AND FRIENDS. 2528 S. Texas College Station Lentz said the company had re ceived the violation notice, which could mean and fine of $50 to $1,000. Lentz also said Stauffer will pay the reasonable medical expenses of persons exposed to the gas. “There are no long-term health effects, but it certainly was a consid erable irritant to those people who smelled it last night,” Lentz said. “We are concerned to the extent that we certainly don’t want it to hap pen again. That particular unit, which makes sulfuric acid, is still shut down and will not be restarted until we’re positive we can control it properly,” he said.
