DePaul, playing its first game since reaching the top spot for the first time in Meyer’s 38 seasons at the helm, needed a 15-foot shot by Skip Dillard with three seconds remain ing to hold off unheralded Lamar of Texas 61-59. I doubt it. This team is driving me nuts. ” DePaul, winning its 53rd straight home game, apparently had the game well in hand with a 57-48 lead with 9:58 left in the contest. But the Blue Demons went into a delay game that Meyer said he did not call for and the maneuver failed as made it 59-59 on a three-point play by Mike Oliver with 37 seconds left. “We didn’t want to play the delay. I told Mark Aguirre to play the mid dle, but he doesn’t know mid-court from the middle, ’ Meyer said. “When we go into the delay, we die. And we got buried.” DePaul called timeout and tried to work the ball to Aguirre, who led the Blue Demons with 19 points.
