DALLAS — Fire department in
vestigators said Tuesday arson was
the cause of a fire which resulted in
$30,000 worth of damage at a clo
thing store owned by an Iranian.
Dallas Fire Department officials
said someone pried open the back
door of Mansor’s International, own
ed by Mansor Morid, and doused
clothing with a flammable liquid.
The fire smoldered a few hours be
fore igniting.
“The business was closed at the
time and it appears it (the fire) had
some help,” a Fire department
spokesman said.
Officials said the arsonist painted
“go home sand niger (sic)” and “this
is just the start” on the inside walls
with black spray paint.
No injuries were reported but fire
Capt. Jerry Chambers said there was
$5,000 worth of building damage and
$25,000 in content damage.
“We’ve determined it was arson.
There was a lot of heat buildup and
smoke and apparently the fire had
flashed,” Chambers said. Burned
debris from the building was sent for
analysis.
“This is the first of many” was writ
ten on the building in black spray
paint.
Police spokesman Bob Shaw said
the fire would not result in a special
protection for Iranians from harass
ment resulting from the hostage
situation in the U.S. Embassy in
Tehran.
Morid said he had not been
threatened prior to the fire but
another Iranian, Abis Bagheri, said
his restaurant had been vandalized
and he would increase security at his
establishment.
“Were very, very concerned,”
said Bagheri, a naturalized Amer
ican. “It’s affected our business. I
hope that the public doesn’t look at
us any differently.”
