Golden Triangle means football
United Press International
Around Texas’ Golden Triangle,
the competition in District 9-AAA is
known as the toughest anywhere.
This year is no different, and two of
the state’s four top-rated teams are
from the same zone in that district.
“Some coaches may be looking
ahead to bi-district and the playoffs,
but around this league we just look
to the next game,” Beaumont
Hebert coach Alexander Durley
told UPI. “All we can think about
right now is Silsbee.”
“All five teams in the zone are ca
pable of winning it, and we feel they
would win most districts across the
state,” Durley said.
The Hebert-Silsbee game is just
one of many important Texas high
school football games scheduled this
weekend. In the same district, Class
AAA top-ranked Jasper hosts Little
Cypress. And a key Class AAAA bat
tle finds top-ranked Abilene Cooper
at eighth-rated Midland Lee.
In other classes, AA’s top-ranked
Kenedy plays at Goliad and A s top-
rated China Spring is at Hamilton.
Plano, No. 2 in Class AAAA, at
tempts to get a tighter grip on Dis
trict 13 this week when the Wildcats
host Richardson. And, No. 3 Conroe
will travel to Houston Cypress
Creek while No. 4 La Porte hosts
Pasadena Dobie. Fifth-ranked
Temple plays at Killeen Ellison,
sixth-ranked San Antonio Judson
hosts San Antonio Harlendale,
seventh-ranked Killeen goes to
Bryan, ninth-ranked Houston Klein
meets Houston McCullough, and
tenth-rated Lubbock Monterey
hosts Plainview.
Paris, second-ranked in Class
AAA, hosts Daingerfield, third-
ranked Kerrville hosts Pleasanton,
fifth-ranked Huntsville is at A&M
Consolidated.

“The decision to postpone de

multimillion-dollar facility was pre

available for long-term borrowing
and the extremely high interest
rates being charged for short-term

The Oilers will continue to train
at a cramped, outmoded, 15-year-
old facility admittedly among the
worst in the NFL. The current
training site is across the street from
Adams’ APC Building.
