LUBBOCK — Attempts by con
men to bilk Social Security recipi
ents out of their savings have been
reported in three states in recent
weeks, according to the district
manager for the Social Security
Administration.
Laura Peacock says impostors po
sing as Social Security Administra
tion workers have failed in two re
ported attempts in Lubbock, but
have been successful elsewhere.
An 87-year-old New Mexico man
recently gave $1,358 to a man who
told the victim he would get him
additional benefits. Peacock said.
“As soon as the con man got the
man’s savings, he promptly disap
pea red,” she said, adding thatasa
