The building was dedicated Sun- jj- day with nearly 100 people looking on, including U.S. Congressman Phil Gramm, the keynote speaker. ^ Gramm called the Eagle an “in- fluence that extends beyond Brazos County” and said the new facility was built to meet the needs of a growing community. J The 43,000-square-foot building, J located on Briarcrest Drive, is five times the size of the previous Eagle 14. newspaper office, and W.S. Pear- >4- son, president and publisher, noted ^ the building was designed to allow expansion if needed. The 45-minute ceremony was CAMPUS THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT £ highlighted by the unveiling of a ^YYYY¥YV¥V¥Y¥V¥V Panting by well-known local artist NOW OPEN IN WOODSTONE CENTER ALBERTS HAIR DESIGN Operated by Albert Martinez (formerly of Newby's in San Antonio) and has been joined by Annette Branecky (also of Newby's in San Antonio.) 9-6 Mon.-Friday Woodstone Center 9-1 Saturdays 696-3003 We use and recommend REDKEN Dr. James Harvey Johnson. The picture depicts a golden eagle sit ting on a branch surveying the area around him. Johnson said the painting would stand as a symbol of the Bryan- College Station Eagle s responsi bility to uphold the first amendment and the freedom of the people of Bryan-College Station. Texas A&M President Jarvis Mil ler told the crowd he appreciated the fine work the Eagle had done over the years, and the work it had done for Texas A&M University. Miller also told of his recent trip to Eastern Europe, and the lack of freedom of the press there. He stressed the citizens of Bryan- College Station and the U.S. should be thankful for the freedom they have. Gramm echoed these thoughts. “Our country is the greatest in the world,” he said. “We are also the greatest hope for the world.” Gramm said Texas, in particular. has a huge stock in the future of our nation. “Texas has quite a few resources, and I believe we will be the pioneer in several areas of our nation’s de velopment,” he said. “I believe while most of the people in the North are squinting up at the sun, we in Texas will be putting it to work for us.” People are moving from the North to Texas, Gramm said, and attributed the movement to the headstrong attitude of the Texas people, notably the Bryan-College Station area. “The ‘can-do’ spirit of Texas and Texas A&M are a primary reason for the growth in this area,” he said. “The people are moving here be cause of this, and I expect growth in the area to increase in the future.” Lorence Bravenec, mayor of Col lege Station, said he too appreciated the fine work of the Eagle, and hoped the newspaper would con tinue the good work. nnnnnnnnnnnnrtnnnrB~yTnnrB'Tra~gTrg^^ Aggieland Flower & Gift Shop If she's special, give her the Keepsake Mum — individually- designed just for her by Aggieland Flower Shop.
