Singer files privacy action
United Press International
NEW YORK — Barbra Streisand
has filed a $5 million suit against
High Society Magazine, claiming
her right to privacy was violated be
cause the magazine obtained and
published photographs of her nude
above the waist.
The suit, filed Thursday in U. S.
District Court in Manhattan, al
leged the New York-headquartered
magazine printed the photographs
without her consent in the
November issue, now in the process
of being distributed.
She asked for an injunction
against distribution.
Streisand, who lives in Los
Angeles, said the photographs were
“maliciously obtained” and violated
her civil rights by exposing her to
humiliation and public ridicule.

Watch out baseball, here come
the 1979-80 Diamond Darlings! If
you’re asking yourself, “What are
the Diamond Darlings?” then you
just don’t know much about Aggie
baseball.
The “Darlings” are bat girls for
the Texas A&M baseball team, and
they were the first girls’ organiza
tion at A&M, sponsor Cheryl Phil
lips said.
Mrs. Troy C. Chandler started
the Diamond Darlings in 1971.
“There were only 12 girls the first
year,” she said. “I’ve been their
sponsor every year except for the
last two years.”
Phillips was a member of the Darl
ings for two years and was captain for
1978-79.
Phillips said, “We are there to
lend support to the team by attend
ing all home games and by doing
special promotional functions such
as hosting activities in the Letter-
man’s Lounge.
“At the games,” she said, “the
girls do the usual things like keeping
bats out of the way, catching balls,
etc., but we also make banners and
do as much P.R. work for the team
as possible.”
The Diamond Darlings are cho
sen through two series of tryouts,
Phillips said.
“The baseball team will do the
preliminaries, and the finals will be
conducted by a panel of judges
made up of various people in the
Administration office and some
members of the Former Students
Association.”
She said that the girls will be
judged on enthusiasm and athletic
ability, although they won’t be re
quired to do anything more than
catch and throw a few baseballs, and
run around picking up bats.
“Anyone who wants to be in the
Diamond Darlings should pick up
an application in 809 Rudder Tower
right away because the deadline is
Oct. 2. There’ll be a meeting some
time next week for all applicants to
discuss when and where tryouts will
be.”
Applicants will be informed about
the time and locaton of the meeting,
Phillips said.
