The hearings, scheduled to last two weeks, are being held only to detertmine cause and will not con duct an inquiry into liability, said Elwood Driver, vice chairman of the NTSB. In opening remarks. Driver said the hearings will focus basically on why an engine mounting assembly called a pylon failed, leading to the separation of the plane’s left engine on takeoff.
