■’here are an estimated
4^288 students who partici
pated in the Intramural Pro-
yn in 1978-79. Many of those
counted were perhaps counted
seVeral times, but it still adds
up to the same total: literally
thousands of Aggies joining in
intramural sports for recreation
and fun.
Here in the McDonald’s
Highlights we may not have
shown your picture or listed
your name. But we would like
to thank you for being a part of
intramurals and encourage you
to join in this summer or next
year. In the meantime, have a
great summer and “keep on
playing”!

Sunburn To Rain:
They Still Came
There were an estimated 200 people in attendance at the hot
and sunny Preliminary and Divisional Finals of the intramural
track meet on Saturday, April 28. For the All-University finals
on Sunday, the track was wet from the night storms. However,
track records continued to be broken in spite of the weather.
In the field events four long standing records were broken.
In the long jump, Jim Michels of SMF broke the 1949 record of
22T" by W. Wally Swanson of the Mullets hurled the shot 58'
l- 1 ^" to break the 1967 shot put record of57'l". In high jump,
Ed Thomas of SMF broke the long, long, standing record from
1941, of 6' 4-%", with the new record of 6'6". Brenna Kerns of
the Silver Streaks won the women’s long jump and set a new
record of 16' Vi".
The Aggies should give themselves a pat on the back for
overall excellence in track competition. At present the Aggies
hold a possible six national intramural records and place in the
top five in eleven other events. Keep up the good work, and we
will see you next year at the track.
