In cut-offs and T-shirt, he is a typical active college student — almost. Coombs, a graduating senior in business manage ment, has been totally deaf since he was 8 years old. But his deafness doesn’t interfere with his life. And his list of activities and achieve ments as an Aggie is longer than that of the average stu dent. Coombs is a resident of Moses Hall and has been since he started classes at Texas A&M four years ago. He jumped right into dorm activities, Coombs said. He has served as a floor repre sentative and for the past two years, as public relations offi cer. He is also active in the Management Society and the Snow Ski Club. Coombs said communica tion is not a problem either in his officer position or in his daily activities. After attending a school for the deaf in San Antonio for four years (grades 2-5), Coombs learned to read lips. He can understand people easily so long as they talk slowly. Coombs attributes his clear speech to his knowing how to talk before he went deaf.
