Page 6 THE BATTALION FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 1979 Mexican dance hand to play here Monday Little Joe, Johnny and la Familia, a dance band, will present a concert sponsored by the Committee for Awareness of Mexican-American Culture at 8 p.m. Monday in Rud der Auditorium. “Instead of the kind of music played in Mexico the band will play the music that originated here,” CAMAC member David Oviedo said. “The band will be like many Mexican bands, with guitars and brass, but will present music with both English and Spanish lyrics. The music will show a little of the mixture of the Mexican and American cul tures.” Pat Bernal, another CAMAC member, said that this band usually plays for dances and rarely accept concerts, but that they were lucky to get them to come to Texas A&M University. “Little Joe (the bandleader) is real popular down in the Valley and he and his band even go out-of-state to play for dances to cities like Chicago,” Bernal said. Oviedo added that the band had just lately been to California and New York. Oviedo said that this is CAMAC’s first concert, and although they have little idea how big the turnout will be, they have been getting good re sponse from the people in the com munity for their past programs. Tickets for the concert are $2 in advance and $2.50 at the door and may be purchased at the MSC Box Office. MSC ARTS COMMITTEE PRESENTS HOLLAND GOLDEN: THE DEEP SOUTH MSC GALLERY 21 APRIL-25 MAY 1979 New York City sending donations to tornado victims United Press International NEW YORK — Mayor Edward Koch and a group of local busi nessmen kicked off a fund-raising campaign Thursday to help the victims of the recent tornado in Wichita Falls. “The rest of the country has helped us and we have a duty to help others, even if they don’t ask,” Koch said while making a $100 personal donation to the fund. Members of the Association for a Better New York contributed another $10,000 and association chairman Lewis Rudin, a real estate developer, set a goal of $100,000 for the drive. Koch said the money already collected would be sent immediately to Wichita Falls, where three tornados last week killed 54 persons and injured more than 500 others. Koch said he had spoken by telephone with Wichita Falls Mayor Kenneth Hill to offer help. Koch urged other New Yorkers to contribute to the drive. He said checks should be made payable to the “Wichita Falls Disaster Relief Fund” and can be sent to the Association for a Better New York, 1270 Avenue of the Americas, New York, N.Y., 10020.
