[ Hatfield said the club was com
mitted to paying Baylor for the re
maining two years of an estimated

! f Baylor felt the end was near when
i’. club dfficials traded All-Pro forward
Leohard “Truck” Robinson to
lopnix over Baylor’s objections.
Theldeal was necessitated when
Robinson and the temperamental
Maravich butted egos. Because
Maravich has a no-trade clause in
his Contract, Robinson was the one

Baylor publicly complained about
Robinson’s loss and how he was not
informed of the deal until after it
was made. Baylor was unavailable
for comment Thursday.
Hatfield, who spoke for the
executive committee consisting of
principal owner Sam Battistone and
local minority owners Sheldon
leychok and Lee Schlesinger,
ilamed the Jazz players on the slow
start, saying they were not
motivated to play.

negotiate with officials in Salt Lake

coach. The club has been without a
general manager for more than a
year after Lewis Schaffel left in a
dispute with management.
There doesn’t seem to be any
hurry (to hire a new coach),” said
Jazz spokesman Dave Fredman.
“The draft isn’t until June 25. It’s
our advantage because it’s a late
draft.”
Baylor was a willing assistant to
the fiery Van Breda Kolff from 1974
to 1976. He took command in the
middle of the 1976-77 season and
the Jazz finished the season with a
35-47 record. New Orleans missed
the playoffs by two games in 1977-78
with a 39-43 record, then struggled
this year with Maravich on the
sidelines for nearly half the year.

There’s still time to realize a
substantial tax savings on
1978 income.
If you are not covered by a retirement plan you
can still qualify for a tax-sheltered savings plan
that reduces 1978 income tax.
The Individual Retirement Account (IRA) offers self-employed workers (and others not
covered by any pension or retirement program) an easy way to set aside savings and reduce
current income taxes. The maximum amount, established by law, is 15% of income or $1,500
(whichever is less). Married workers can set aside a total of $1,750 if their spouse is not
employed.
A new feature of the law this year permits workers to exercise their option to create an IRA
for 1978 income any time before they file their 1978 income tax return (normally prior to April
15, 1979). So you still have time to take advantage of this tax savings.
Every IRA dollar invested in BB6?L earns 8% interest (an effective annual yield of 8.33%),
the maximum interest permitted by law. No financial institution can pay you more.
It’s easy to set up an IRA with BBSfL. We’ve streamlined the procedure and minimized the
paperwork. You can handle all the details in one visit.
For information on your specific tax situation, talk to your accountant or your
attorney. For information on IRA, talk to Hazel Holland, BB&Ii’s 1BA specialist.
