m THE BATTALION FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1979 Page 5 Report cites cause of crib death United Press International NEW HAVEN, Conn.— A Yale researcher says he may have found the cause of the so-called sudden in fant death syndrome that kills more than 10,000 apparently healthy American babies each year. Dr. Clarence Sasaki, associate Now you know United Press International Rep. Marilyn Lloyd Bouquard, D-Tenn., submitted 89 pieces of legislation to Congress in one day last month — including a measure to reduce the amount of paperwork in the federal government. professor of surgery at Yale Medical School, said in a report submitted Thursday to the National Triological Society in Los Angeles, that the syndrome — SIDS — could be caused by abnormal development of breathing reflexes. Common theories have blamed SIDS on temporary breathing obstruction or on the central ner vous system somehow forgetting to keep the child breathing. But Sasaki said SIDS victims, usually infants between 2 and 5 months old, may actually suffer an abnormality and may die due to an exaggerated condition during a natural stage of development. Last fall, 1,072 pints were donated, the third highest amount of blood do nated in the drive s 20-year history. Texas A&M has an account with the Wadley Blood Bank, which is a member of the American Associa tion of Blood Banks, Edmund said. This means that all Aggies may re ceive blood anywhere in the United States. “In order to receive blood, the Aggie must contact the secretary of the student government at A&M,” Edmund explained. “The secretary then makes the arrangements with Wadley.” A blood donor must be in good health and must weigh at least 110 lbs. The eligibility age ranges from 18 to 66. A 17-year-old must have pa rental permission. After students give blood in the MSG ballroom, it is transferred to a mobile blood bank. There is it sepa rated into its components, according to LVN Sherri Harris of Wadley Blood Bank. This year the University of Texas at Austin challenged A&M to see how much blood could be donated. “Bleed the hell out of t.u.” is this semester’s slogan for the blood drive, along with the more famil iar,‘Put a little Aggie in everyone. ” e only likY- r\i\i lW inf 1 I toorVs OS A. pW* < w^br! i \\6JKl “New Styles of Sandwiches We Use All ( Osar / / Mai]erf Products me Ime Sum* .00/11 144 as Ap . to ca®P IJi | 817 University Drive (Formerly Mr. Gatti’s Pizza Mat) Hrs.
