by the Federal Employee As-
ciation in San Antonio. She is a

Moody picks new
sea cadet leaders
The Texas Maritime Academy
at Moody College in Galveston
announced new cadet leaders
March 19. Rear Adm. Kenneth
Haynes, superintendent of the
academy, said J. Mark
Grinstead of Seabrook has been
selected as corps commander.
The admiral also named Charles
Gabriel of Dickinson, as corps
executive officer. The new Corps
Chief Petty Officer is Stephen
Potz-Nielsen of Longview. New
Corps Adjutant is Jeanne Lam-
brecht of Lockport, N.Y., and
the new Corps Master-At-Arms
is William McBride of Austin.
Saying his policy is to “in
crease both the responsibility
and authority of the cadet leader
ship as soon as possible,” Haynes
announced new cadet company
commanders. Company A com
mander is Blake Peevy of Texas
City. Stacy Payne of Houston
will command B company. Com
pany C commander is Frank
Ridgley of San Antonio and D
company’s commander will be
Russell Gregg of Edmond, Okla.
The Texas Maritime Academy
is part of the Texas A&M Univer
sity System and is one of only
five maritime academies in the
nation. It is the only one on the
gulf coast.
Batt staffers win
writing awards
Several Battalion editors have
won state or nationwide awards
recently. David Boggan, sports
editor, placed tenth in the na
tional Hearst Foundation Jour
nalism Awards Program and won
a $100 scholarship. He received
the award for a story last fall
about former Head Football
Coach Emory Bollard’s resigna
tion.
Andy Williams, assistant man
aging editor, will receive an
award scroll for placing
nineteenth in the same competi
tion. He won his award in the
“breaking news” category for a
story last December concerning
a hiring scheme for a non
existent warehouse in the area.
Kim Tyson, editor, won the
Corpus Christi Press Club s
“University Award” as outstand
ing college journalist for 1978.
Tyson was judged against other
collegiate journalists who sub
mitted clippings for the contest.
She received the $1,000 cash in
Corpus Christi last Friday.
Vet medical group
honors Dr. Price
Dr. Alvin A. Price was hon
ored by the Texas Veterinary
Medical Association at its recent
annual convention in San An
tonio. TVMA President Dr. A.F.
Smith presented Price a plaque
that read “In appreciation of
service as keynote speaker for
Veterinarian’s Political Action
Committee 1977-78.”
Currently administrator of
biomedical science and professor
of veterinary physiology at Texas
A&M University’s College of
Veterinary Medicine, Price has
received numerous honors from
the TVMA and other professional
organizations.
Price joined the Texas A&M
faculty in 1949 in the anatomy
department and served as dean
of the veterinary college from
1957 to 1973.
Klussmann named head
of wildlife, fisheries
Dr. Wallace G. Klussmann,
wildlife and fisheries project
leader and marine program
leader for the Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, has been
named head of the Texas A&M
University Wildlife and
Fisheries Department.
Klussmann will fill the vacancy
created when Dr. James Teer
resigned recently to become di-
ftector of the Welder Wildlife
Foundation.
The new department head
came to Texas A&M in 1963 to
serve as wildlife and fisheries
specialist and was later named
project leader for the Extension
Service.
The appointment was an
nounced jointly by Dr. Perry L.
Adkisson, the university’s vice
president for agriculture and re
newable resources; Dr. J.M.
Prescott, vice president for
academic affairs, and H.O. Kun-
kel, dean of agriculture.
