Austin
TEXAS CAPITOL: The Texas Legislature is now
in session. Tours of the capitol are given every
quarter hour, seven days a week, from 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.
Houston
OPERA: The Houston Grand Opera will perform
“Der Rosenkavalier," an opera by Strauss
through tomorrow in Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Call 713-227-5277.
RODEO: The Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo is taking place at the Astrodome, 9100
Kirby Drive. Performances extend through Sun
day, March 4. They include:

—March 2: Loretta Lynn
—March 3: Kenny Rogers, Dottie West
—March 4: Charley Pride
HOUSTON FESTIVAL: Over 110 entertainment
groups have already signed up to participate in
the first Houston Festival: Main Street Plus,
which will take place downtown on weekends
from March 16-25. Entertainment will be pres
ented to the public free at five outdoor stages.
The festival will include reminders of Texas cul
tural heritage, plus both open and juried arts and
crafts sales.
San Antonio
INSTITUTE OF TEXAN CULTURES: The insti
tute presents the history of the state through oral
and visual methods, and brings some historical
events to life through special demonstrations. It
is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through
Sundays for planned or just relaxed tours. Ad
mission is free. The institute is located on the
southeast corner of Hemisfair Plaza downtown,
at the intersection of Durango Street and In
terstate 37.

FOLK FESTIVAL: The Kerrville Folk Festival will
be held on Saturday, March 17 at the Kerrville
Municipal Auditorium. There will be two concerts,
at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Performers include Nanci
Griffith, Lindsey Haisley, Louis Real, Peter
Rowan, Don Sanders and Southern Select. Ad
mission is $3 for each concert, or $5 for both.
