Festival For any of you going home to Laredo this weekend, or just heading that way, the First An nual Jalapeno Street Festival will be held there Saturday. The festival, which will take place in San Agustin Plaza, will feature a Miss Jalapeno 79 beauty contest, a "no-holds-barred” jalapeno-eating contest, an international waiters' race, live music, food and drinks. The beauty contest is open to all interested girls 17 or over. The jalapeno-eating contest is open to anyone over 18 who wants to enter, but the contestant must first fill out a liability release form. The waiters’ race will feature contestants from various hotels and restaurants in Mexico and the United States. The Jalapeno Street Festival is part of Laredo's annual Washington’s Birthday Celebra tion, which also features a Colonial pageant, Colonial ball, international parade, horse racing, Mexican rodeo, fireworks and two carnivals. focus THE BATTALION COVER Participants in the Outdoor Recreation Committee’s activities often enjoy rock climbing in beautiful coun try, often filled with waterfalls like the one at right.
