[he people at Mississippi State very gracious during my visit this week. But any additional lents should come from them. It’s not my position to speak for them,” Bellard said. "I think they have a solid interest in Emory Bellard,” the former Aggie coach told The Battalion Saturday. “I know they have an interest or I would not have made the trip over there. I enjoyed the visit. Mississippi State is similar to A&M in a lot of ways. It is a very impressive place.” Bellard, 48, had a 48-27 record at Texas A&M and led the Aggies to three bowl games. When he re signed in October, Bellard said he was leaving athletics forever. “Obviously if I elect to get back into athletics. I’ve changed my mind,” Bellard said with a laugh. Mississippi State’s new athletic- director, Carl Maddox, interviewed Bellard in College Station last week and at that time the coach said he was approaching the MSU job with an open mind. Tyler resigned as football coach Jan. 22 after being relieved as ath letic director by school president James McComas. The college presi dent said he relieved Tyler because the football program had demanded too much of his time in answering questions and criticism about the athletic program. Bellard was among a series of coaches interviewed by a search committee set up following Tyler’s resignation. Other coaches inter viewed by the panel included Southern Mississippi Coach Bobby Collins, Tom Goode, an assistant at Ole Miss, and Millsaps Coach Harper Davis. MSU officials said more than 100 coaches have submitted applications for the job. exas Aggie track results Oklahoma Track Classic Men’s Team d n: Tom Class, first, 1:56.94; shot: icott, third, 59-714; high jump: Jim How- pst, 7-1 (meet record); pole vault: Randy second, 16-6; 60-yard dash: Curtis 7, first, 6.25. BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS ON SALE AT New Titles ARRIVING DAILY If you’re a junior or senior majoring in sciences like math, physics or engineering, the Navy has a program you should know about. It’s called the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate- Collegiate Program (NUPOC-C for short) and if you qualify, you can earn as much as $650 a month right through your senior year. Then after 16 weeks of Officer Candidate School, you’ll get an additional year of advanced technical education. This would cost thousands in a civilian school, but in the Navy, we pay you. It isn’t easy. There are fewer than 400 openings and only one of every six applicants will be selected. But if you make it, you’ll have unequaled hands-on responsibility, a $24,000 salary in four years, and gilt- edged qualifications for jobs both in the Navy and out. Ask your placement officer to set up an interview with a Navy representative when he visits the campus, or contact your Navy representative at 800-841-8000, or send in the coupon.
