But gifted children also need help desperately, said Dr. Irving Sato, president of the Na tional/State Leadership Training Institute on the Gifted and Tal ented. Sato spoke Tuesday night to parents and teachers at South Knoll Elementary School. “Many gifted adults are not productive because they never really learned to nurture their own gifts (as children).” If this were to con tinue, the loss would be monumental, Sato said. He said that in 1971 there were about two million gifted and tal ented children in the United States. According to a Congressional study that year, only 4 percent of those children received help from their school systems. Sato said the program did not receive any financial aid until 1974. “This was the first financial assistance the program received. It authorized 12.5 million for the program. However, there is a large gap between authorization and appropriation.” Sato said only $2.5 million has actually reached the schools in the last three years. With all the gifted and talented children in the nation, this works out to about $1 per child, he said. However, Sato feels encouraged. “We are farther ahead today than we have ever been. There is a kind of excitment growing.” Sato said parents are a big factor in the continued improvement of special children development. “The role of the family is so very im portant in the growth of a child. We may reject the very best because we don’t understand them. Sato also encouraged parents to “introduce gifted children to as many different experiences as possible. Encourage independence and exploration. Encourage their successes so that they will continue to be successful. Sato described a gifted and talented child as one who consistently shows outstanding abilities and high performances. A child’s special talents can range from academics to arts to athletics. Most children’s special abilities become evident as they progress in school. For this reason, parents and teachers must cooperate, Sato said. FM section specifications include a usable sensitivity of 1.9/zV (at 10.8dBf in mono), 50dB quieting sensitivity of 16dBf/34dBf (mono/stereo), signal-to-noise ratio at 65dBf of 72dB/68dB (mono/stereo) and THD at 65dBf of 0.1 %/0.2% (mono/stereo). Capture ratio is 1 dB. Stereo separation at 1 kHz is 45dB and at 50Hz to 10kHz is 30dB. NA-550 Integrated Stereo Amplifier The NA-550 delivers 45 watts, continuous power output, both channels driven, minimum RMS per channel into 8 ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than 0.08% total harmonic distortion. Features on the NA-550 include two large VU meters, two system speaker control, separate bass/treble controls, infinitely variable VU meter control, high filter, loudness switching, 3-position function switching, 5-position tape control and balance control. Additional features include a special speaker protection circuit and Nikko’s exclusive circuit breakers. (Custom walnut veneer cabinets are available for the NA-550/NT-550 combinations.)
